OH MY GOD, THE DEMOCRATS ARE GOING TO BLOW THE 2020 ELECTION
This country cannot survive four more years of Donald Trump.
If the truth be told, the country cannot survive four more minutes of Donald Trump.
But the hope of all Democrats and many Independents and Republicans with brains was that in 2020 a smart, attractive, middle-of-the-road Democrat candidate (did I hear someone just say “Michael Bloomberg”?) would emerge and our four-year national nightmare would be over.
But no, it’s 2019 and Bloomberg is not running and every single Democrat candidate who has announced is moving as far left as fast as they can.
It was that useless old socialist Bernie Sanders who started it.
Sanders, who hurt Hillary’s chances and made a great contribution towards helping Trump win.
It was clear when he announced he was running for president that he couldn’t point to his record in the Senate. He had none.
Barney Frank, a fellow Democrat who served with him in the Senate, once said about Bernie, “With the exception of a few small things, he never got anything done.”
So what did Sanders do? He promised that if he got elected he would tax, tax, tax anyone who worked for a living.
College? That would be tuition-free.
As president, he would toss out Obamacare and replace it with a “Medicare for all” system that he said would cost trillions per year.
Who would pay for this? Who knows?
Bernie preached the kind of socialism that has millions of people in Venezuela starving.
So what are this year’s crop of Democrats doing? They’re trying to out-Bernie Bernie.
My favorite is a Congressional rookie who is the darling of the millions of millennials whose bills are paid by their parents so they can afford to be socialists. Her name is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
On the positive side, she’s young, attractive and enthusiastic. On the negative side, she’s an idiot.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a self-described Democratic socialist. The 29-year-old newly minted House member is entering office with an ambitious agenda, including Medicare for all, tuition-free public college and sweeping environmental protections.
Her proposal to raise money by taxing the richest Americans at 70 percent of their income to fund her Green New Deal, which aims to eliminate carbon emissions in the US within 12 years, is a pie-in-the-sky idea that has even the most liberal-minded Democrats running for cover.
As one Democrat writer put it, she aims to do nothing less than “decarbonize the economy.”
She’s not alone.
Going from the sublime to the ridiculous, Bumbling Bill de Blasio, clearly the worst mayor in the history of New York City, has decided that he might challenge Donald Trump’s title as the worst president in the history of the United States.
He started his campaign by vowing womb-to-tomb handouts and a permanent push for more free stuff for everybody.
Bumbling Bill came up with three ways of come-and-get-it giveaways. First he vowed free health care for New Yorkers. Next came a plan to force private employers to give nearly all workers 10 paid vacation days a year.
Then, in his State of the City speech, de Blasio secured victory by making even more promises, such as seizing private apartment buildings from landlords, and laying out a vision for a city that would bury capitalism.
Then he declared a total class war: “Brothers and sisters, there’s plenty of money in the world. There’s plenty of money in this city. It’s just in the wrong hands.”
Spoken like a true revolutionary who never did an honest day’s work in his life. All this is making Elizabeth Warren, a fake Native American whom Trump has renamed “Pocahontas,” look good.
I disagree with Trump. Warren reminds me of Princess Summerfall Winterspring from the Howdy Doody Show. Warren is a Democrat presidential hopeful who’s decided she must come into office and blow up the greatest economy the world has ever seen. No wonder every Democrat I know has sworn they would never vote for her.
And here comes another Democrat candidate who will be “Elizabeth Warren light.” Her name is Kirsten Gillibrand. She is still another candidate who wants to give away the money you and I work for. Still another candidate who doesn’t understand that “the land of the free” is just a line in a patriotic song.
And through it all Donald Trump is lying with every breath he takes. His taking babies away from illegal immigrants and putting them in cages was the most vile, disgusting act in the history of this country. Any economic good he has achieved is far outweighed by the fact that every night when we fall asleep, an unhinged Donald Trump has us just one tweet away from destruction.
That said, the current crop of Democrat opponents will never beat him by promising us socialism.
Look at it this way. Trump got 62,984,825 votes to win the presidency. Have you run into anyone who voted for Trump in 2016 who says they won’t be voting for him in 2020? Neither have I.
We’re screwed.
So what’s next? Another Democrat socialist/communist candidate who will run on the “free” ticket.
Someone should read them the great George Will line where he said,
